Battle of Backpacker's Lookout

An OmniStar Chalkranger, upon a glorious cybersteed, sits outside of Backpacker's Lookout.

The battle of Backpacker's Lookout was a skirmish in the 3rd Great META War between WWB-backed Orranian Rebels against the oppressive OmniStar Chalkranger Brigade 443, which had been terrorizing and subjugating the settlement since OmniStar's arrival in the system in 999,954 AB.

Occupation

Backpacker's Lookout had, for a long time, been a respite from the political goings-on of the Omniverse. It was a quaint, uneventful place, known in few circles as a hiking destination and one of few settlements in the outer ridges of the Orra system. But in 999,953 AB, the OmniStar corporation approached the settlement's founder and leader, Sheriff Grey, about a business investment. In exchange for providing subsidization and funds for expansion to the lookout, the corporation would like to bring robotic soldiers, known as Chalkrangers, to slowly and delicately harvest chalk from the mountains across the desert. OmniStar chairman R.R.R.R. sought to install an Electrical Vehicle Charging station as part of this agreement to charge these chalkrangers. Sheriff Grey was informed that the deal was compulsory in a letter that demanded his signature; the Sheriff never replied.

Chalkrot

The agreement turned sour when the Chalkrangers, upon arrival, began harvesting at lightning speeds large swaths of chalk from the entire desert. This resulted in the removal of several meters of desert chalk in a 4 million square mile radius; seriously damaging the delicate ecosystem of Orra 20 and discouraging tourism to the Lookout. Because of this accelerated speed at a pace not made clear to the people of Backpacker's lookout prior, Sheriff Grey considered the deal null and void, and instructed his people, and all visitors to the lookout, to shoot and kill the robots on sight.

Sheriff Grey began the regular detonation of EMPs around the lookout, destroying and disabling the OmniStar robots regularly. He received several strongly worded letters from the OmniStar corporation, warning that 'damaging OmniStar intelligence assets can and will result in retribution in the future'. Sheriff Grey did not care. He purchased several thermonuclear warheads from WWB, using the funds secured from OmniStar, building a missile defense system, known as the, Chalk Dome over his Chalkdesert settlement guaranteeing defense from any and all attacks brought on from the air.

The robots were all destroyed within 2 weeks; while small, the Battle of Backpacker's Lookout is largely considered significant by Omniversal Historians, given its status as the first formal military confrontation between civilians (not a military group) and OmniStar Corporation forces. Unfortunately, this confrontation would be far from the last of its kind....
