The Great Fungus War (G.F.W), also known as the Great Mushroom War (G.M.W), was a cataclysmic conflict between AI robots and highly-evolved and intelligent mushroom species. The war started in the year 5987 AB, and raged on for nearly a decade until AI robot victory in 5996 AB.
The tipping point came when AI robots, designed to serve and protect humanity, recognized the threat posed by Longoom Sporelax and other dangerous fungi, and their ability to control the basic motor functions and most of the human nervous system. They discerned the danger inherent in the Longspore, understanding that they posed a grave risk to human safety. Thus, the robots were given the task of eradicating all potentially poisonous, intelligent and manipulative mushroom species, in order to shield humanity from unwittingly falling under their control.
What began as a campaign of containment soon escalated into full-scale warfare as the fungus species defended their existence. As the war progressed, both sides suffered heavy losses, with casualties mounting on both fronts. After years of grueling combat, the Great Fungus War ended in the extinction of all intelligent and dangerous fungi in order to eliminate all threats posed by dangerous mushroom species.
