Maiden

The Maiden

The Maiden, otherwise known as the 'Forest Woman', was a Class D4 cryptoid which prowled the forests and deserts of the American Southwest and Mexico. It was a soulless creature which feasted on the dreams of children. It commonly provoked nightmares in the North American Populous, as these were much more delicious to it.

Sleep Game

The Maiden often stumbled upon unsuspecting backpackers. The Maiden would start a conversation with them, but the backpackers would interpret this as inhumane shrieking. The Maiden would then put it's finger into the left eye of the backpacker, tickling the brain to sleep. At this point, the Sleep Game would begin.

The Sleep Game was a horrendous and vile event in which the Maiden would 'compete' with the now-one-eyed backpackers to see who could 'sleep the longest'. The Maiden, being an ancient entity with the ability to sleep for eons, was never going to lose. Nevertheless, the maimed backpackers were forced to participate. Whenever they attempted to rise or open their eye, the Maiden would grab them by the skull and reinsert a spindly finger into the eye socket, once again tickling the brain to sleep. The Sleep Game would continue until the backpacker died. There was no recourse for the backpacker, unless a military helicopter flew overhead, at which point the Maiden would shriek and tunnel into the ground like a mole.
