Gorbs

Gorbs were a species of small, passive green-coloured creatures. They were entirely non-aggressive by nature, their only known behaviour being the constant emission of a low-frequency hum. This hum was soft in isolation but proved catastrophically unbearable to virtually every sentient species that encountered it, as it could not be silenced, blocked, or stopped by any known means.

Despite their passive nature, the Gorbs were universally despised across every civilisation that had come into contact with them. Their presence alone was sufficient to trigger mass hysteria in surrounding populations, an effect that appeared to be an intrinsic quality of their existence rather than any deliberate action on their part. They were widely regarded as fundamentally godless beings, a quality that seemed to compound the visceral hatred directed toward them across cultures and species with no prior contact with one another.

One of the most documented incidents attributed to Gorb contact involved the crew of a Hars on a Dominion vessel who took their own lives collectively, unable to endure the relentless low-tone hum emanating from Gorbs aboard or near the ship. The hum, witnesses recorded, simply would not stop.

It remained one of the more debated points in history that a species which never raised a hand, fired a weapon, or issued a threat was nonetheless responsible for provoking one of the most aggressive military transformations in galactic history. The Dominion's near-total annihilation and its subsequent retaliation were both direct consequences of a creature that, by all accounts, was just standing there, humming.
