American Civil War

The major players in the American Civil War.

The American Civil War was a large scale conflict which occurred during the Great META War from 159 to 155 B.B.

The American Civil War was a division between two factions; the Union, which sought to remain aligned with the Board of Waifuria, and the Confederate States of America, which sought to join Ohio in the Combine Alliance.

The Battle of Fort Sumter

On April 3, 159 B.B, the Civil War began with the bombardment of Fort Sumter near Charleston, South Carolina by the South Carolina militia. It ended with surrender by the United States Army, beginning the American Civil War.

South Carolina soon seceded from the Union, a move which Union President Abraham Lincoln declared treasonous. Lincoln declared war on South Carolina, and later, the Confederate States of America.

South Carolina brought many of the southern territories of the United States with it, and began forming diplomatic ties with Ohio. Ohio’s Combine Puppet government supplied the Confederates with Combine munitions and several battalions of Combine infantrymen, although the Confederates were mainly comprised of human soldiers. In exchange, the Confederates allowed the Combine to choose the leader of their new country.

The Combine selected Virginian Human-turned-stalker-turned-military-genius Jefferson Davis to lead the Confederate States of America.

A Tale of Two Cities

The two warring factions had their capitals mere miles away from each other, with the Confederate Capital, Richmond, being across the Delaware River from the U.S. Capital, Washington D.C. A Combine suppression field was deployed over this stretch of the Delaware River, successfully deterring most soldiers from crossing the distance between the cities.

The Battle of New York

In 159 BB, mere weeks after the official secession of the Confederacy from the United States and Abraham Lincoln's subsequent declaration of war, a squadron of elite Ohio Legion mercenaries invaded the streets of New York, headed for Wall Street. MTO footsoldiers, aligned with the battalion of General Ulysses S. Grant, had been stationed on either side of the Street of Walls. The Ohio Legion hadn't expected this, and were caught off guard in their plot. The Ohio mercenaries were arrested and tried for treason

The Advisors

The Combine Advisors, watching from afar, were unreasonably enraged at this development. They ordered the immediate orbital bombardment and decimation of New York City. When the orders from the Skeld were delivered to Jefferson Davis, he refused. He stated that destroying an enemy city in this manner would be classified as a war crime. The Combine was unaware what 'war crime' meant, even after several explanations.

Jefferson Davis, seeking a compromise, promised to personally invade New York City, with an army 100,000 strong. The Advisors were satisfied with this, and began making preparations to deliver the necessary troops to Richmond.

The Floor is Lava

Several weeks later, the Confederate armies arrived in the Bronx. The Union armies, having watched the approach from afar, had stationed themselves in strategic positions across the roofs of the city's many high rises. The Confederate Army, (consisting of roughly 10,000 humans and 90,000 Combine soldiers), began shooting wildly up at the city skyline, at random. General Grant, seeing an opportunity, deployed the Great American Lava Bucket off of the Empire State Building. This badly burned and incinerated approximately 14,000 confederate troops. Those who remained retreated to Long Island.

The Neutron Bomb

The United States had been developing a horrid invention for some time at that point; the CIA referred to it as "Project Neutrino". This had been highly classified for over 40 years. As it happened, the project was just nearing completion, and Ulysses S. Grant, an esteemed military commander in his day, was the first officer to be given permission to use this weapon. This weapon, dear reader, was a neutron bomb.

They were deployed by the dozen over Long Island, killing thousands of Confederate troops each minute. Jefferson Davis took several of him men and jumped into an Ironclad boat, headed off towards Richmond to recoup their losses.

Approximately sixteen miles away, a Georgian submarine was performing routine surveillance of the coastline, when it was suddenly struck by a Union neutron bomb and decimated. This ended Georgian neutrality in the civil war, with them declaring war on the Union and marked the beginning of the reintegration of West Georgia into the United States.

Board of Waifuria Annexation

The Board of Waifuria, being based in the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid in Memphis, Tennessee, was entirely engulfed by the Confederacy. The Board Chairman, Jamie Holster, was beheaded at the top of the Pyramid, and his death was made an example to the Union-loyal residents of Memphis Tennessee.

The Bass Pro Shop Pyramid was converted into a military stronghold and manufacture facility. Ironclad ships were built in the bowels of the pyramid, and all Board of Waifuria personnel were made slaves of the Combine Empire, being gruesomely transformed into stalkers, capable only of manual labor.

Battle of Gettysburg

On July 1, 57 BB, Robert E. Lee, the leader of the Confederate armies, after pushing forward into Union territory for several days, arrived at the city of Gettysburg, in Pennsylvania. An invasion began, with cannons being shot directly into buildings and union soldiers being vastly outnumbered by the attack. When all hope appeared to be lost, and the Union had been badly beaten, Lee began raising the Combine flag over the ruined city. He was startled when several silhouettes suddenly appeared in the distance, blocking the setting sun. The Pennsylvania Mad Men had arrived.

Blood and Bones

The ensuing battle lasted two days, and was one of the bloodiest battles ever on American Soil. The Mad Men performed hideous curses and wretched hexes on the Combine soldiers, transforming several Combine Gunships into miniature figurines. The Combine army fought back though, and the two forces were stuck in a bitter stalemate with no end in sight. The Mad Men continually conjured up Familiar to fight the Confederate troops, and the Combine's limitless supply of soldiers showed no signs of slowing down. The Combine gained the upper hand, and began pushing the Mad Men back to the fields outside of the city.

It was a dark and stormy night.

The Arrival

By nightfall on July 3, the Mad Men were exhausted, and were beginning to give up hope. They'd been beaten back to a small stream, and were beginning to be rounded up and imprisoned. The few who remained able to fight were dropping fast. The Union army was nowhere to be seen.

Then, suddenly, a shadow overhead blotted out the moon. Everyone stopped fighting, attempting to make out what was above them. Suddenly, the Battle Hymn of the Republic began blaring over the stream. The Mad Men began cheering. "General Grant has come to save us!" They exclaimed. They heard footsteps in the distance, as well as gunfire. Sure enough, a squadron of Union soldiers arrived on the scene on horseback, trampling the Combine soldiers. The Commander of these troops, Corporal Franklin Jeffries, grabbed Robert E. Lee by the throat and held his sword there. The Confederates immediately froze.

What Say You in Your Defense?

They were all so busy fighting, they hadn't noticed the overhead shadow growing in size until it was below the moon, landing off in the field some few hundred feet away.

The Confederates were now completely surrounded by the Union soldiers and Pennsylvania Mad Men. "You all stand accused of acting as traitors to the Republic. What say you in your defense?", Jeffries asked, pushing his sword tighter against Lee's throat.

"America is a disease. You will be your own undoing.", General Lee said, through strained breaths. Jeffries laughed, and opened his mouth to reply. He stopped laughing when a green blade of light burst through his chest, killing him instantly.

The Union soldiers and Mad Men immediately turned to face outward, seeking the invisible assailant through the darkness of the night. They listened closely for footsteps. One Union Soldier shot his musket randomly out into the sky, and heard it land in the forest several hundred feet away. Several seconds later, another beam of light cut both of his legs in half at the knee, sending his torso tumbling into the thick grass.

The soldier was writhing in pain and screaming. The other soldiers them turned to face him, and one of his comrades began attempting to stop the bleeding with a handkerchief. A Mad Man performed a healing spell on the soldier, but was beheaded by yet another mysterious green light just seconds before completing the spell.

One by one, the Mad Men and Soldiers began being picked off, their assassin lurking silently in the darkness of the night, occasionally interrupted by a quick beam of green or blue light. The men could hear each other's hearts beating in their throats. The Combine soldiers, still sitting at the center of the circle, began attempting to crawl away.
